Discover the cutting edge of innovation at OMSI on Saturday, May 3rd from 10 am to 3 pm!
All are welcome to attend the showcase- whether you are young, young-at-heart, curious about new products or have ideas for making your own. The showcase does not require admission to OMSI, and can be accessed separately. A $5 donation to the Micro-enterprise Inventors Program of Oregon is suggested to attend the showcase. All proceeds will benefit MIPO, a 501(c)(3) non-profit program of East County One Stop.
MIPO invites the public to meet local inventors as they showcase their work at the 2008 Oregon Inventors Showcase on Saturday, May 3 at OMSI. The event, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will also include the “Oregon Best Invention Contest” with prizes including financial support and resources to help develop the winner’s invention. The public helps judge the Contest, voting on the day of the Showcase for the inventor who will receive the People’s Choice award and prize.
The Inventors Showcase will also offer workshops and speakers for both emerging and established inventors, including keynote speaker John Calvert from the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Calvert, former head of the Office of Independent Inventor Programs, will discuss innovation and trends. Other talks include a presentation by the founders of Boogie Wipes®. Founder Mindee Doney will discuss how her company secured distribution for its baby wipes product to 10,000 retail locations in less than one year.
Experts in the fields of patent law, licensing, manufacturing, prototype design and funding will also gather at OMSI to exchange ideas and resources. Workshops focusing on how an aspiring inventor can become a successful inventor and entrepreneur include: “Avoiding the Retail Run-Around" - Getting your product into retail chains, “Oops – I Think We Have a Problem” - Working through inventor’s dilemmas, “Where Is the Money?” - Finding money for your invention, “So You Think You Can Invent?” – Knowing how to create the next great invention.
The Inventors Showcase is open to the public, and folks of all ages are invited to attend. OMSI museum members can attend free of charge, and the general public is encouraged to offer a suggested donation of five dollars.
